new work from Alexandra Tyng

Alexandra Tyng is a representational artist best known for her oil paintings of figures and aerial landscapes. The portrait shown here, Vision to Hand, was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in the Portrait Society of America’s 2011 Art of the Portrait Conference. In 2010, her portrait of architect Louis I. Kahn was accepted into the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., and her paintings were included in two major group exhibitions, Inspiring Figures at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown OH, and Women Painting Women in Charleston SC. She is now working on her next solo exhibition, opening August 2011 at the Dowling Walsh Gallery in Rockland, ME. This will be the first gallery show to encompass the broad spectrum of Tyng’s work, focusing on three locations in coastal Maine. Photo credit: Nancy Bea Miller

“The surfaces breathe with life, and are rich with small strokes of color. The brushwork is inquisitive, actively leading the eye throughout the image, yet also deliberative in defining textures and shaping forms.”
