Janelle McKain

Janelle McKain was born the youngest of three children.  Growing up the daughter of a Union Pacific Railroad clerk and “stay at home” mother in the community of North Platte, Nebraska.   She earned a Bachelor’s degree in K-12 Art Education with an endorsement in Gifted Education from Kearney State College.  In 1980 she began teaching and has spent her entire career in art education and presently is the Art Department Chair at Millard South High School in Omaha, Nebraska teaching Drawing and Advanced Drawing.  McKain oversees a department of 5 faculty and nearly 1200 students who pass through the MSHS art department each school year.

Her passion has always been about creativity, and nurturing the spirit of self-expression through the arts in others.

McKain’s work has been exhibited internationally in Germany and Poland, as well as in the states.  She is published in numerous books, and has been featured in several magazines, and online zines.
