Victoria Selbach paints with the intention to define the essence of each woman unique in her space and time. She uses the light to capture, with honesty, the integrity of each individual. Not adding or embellishing, not wiping away or mending, presenting each woman as she is, full, present, real, lustrous and found. Selbachs creative eye not only sees what is truly present but frames it to create strong compositional dynamics. Abstract architecture of light and dark is the foundation of each piece. The figure interweaves within the underlying geometry, cropped and held within the dimensions of the canvas. One fleeting moment is captured as the light moves across the canvas alternately highlighting and abstracting the human form. Subtleties are illuminated as the light permeates the layers beneath the surface. Color, dimension and the emotion held deep within are revealed.
Discussing Victorias work, Pat Rogers writes, “Shadows and contrasting light bathes the subject in subtle drama that hints at a life in the throes of unfolding.”
